On October 22, Cambodia welcomed 856 international tourists aboard the Viking Venus cruise ship, which docked at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port  for a two-day visit from October 22 to 23.

The vessel, sailing under the Norwegian flag, reached the port after travelling from Vietnam. Immigration police officials reported that the ship measures 228.30 metres in length, with a width of 28.80 metres and a draught of 6.65 metres.

Of the 856 passengers on board, 686 were American nationals, making them the largest group, including 364 women. Australians ranked second, with 52 visitors, 25 of whom were women. In total, the passengers came from 27 nationalities. The vessel’s 467 crew members represented another 35 nationalities, with women accounting for 112 of the crew. Twenty-five tourists from Siem Reap, representing two nationalities, were also travelling aboard the ship. The cruise ship is scheduled to depart Sihanoukville on October 23, bound for Thailand.

Passengers visiting the province have opportunities to experience both its natural landscapes and local culture. Places of interest include Tomnub Rolok fishing village, bustling local markets, scenic beaches, pagodas and historic monuments.

Cambodia has received two foreign cruise ships during the current rainy season, including this latest arrival. The approaching dry season is expected to bring more vessels to the country, potentially increasing international visitor numbers in Preah Sihanouk province, particularly among European travellers.

The government views tourism as a key contributor to economic development and household earnings. Its strategy promotes the industry as ‘green gold’, reflecting its potential to support livelihoods while strengthening the national economy. Provincial Deputy Governor and relevant officials welcomed the passengers upon their arrival, as Cambodia continues to promote its coastal destinations to overseas visitors.
