Visitors in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City will soon have another way to explore the city’s landmarks, with a new open-top double-decker sightseeing bus service scheduled to begin operations on July 4.
Announced by the city’s Public Transport Management Centre under the Department of Construction on June 25, the new non-subsidised DL06 route will link Saigon Bus Station with Binh Trung. The service will be operated by World Travel Trading Joint Stock Company (JSC) using 60-seat open-top double-decker buses designed to offer panoramic views throughout the journey.
Spanning approximately 27 kilometres, each trip is expected to take around 110 minutes. The buses will operate daily between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm, with a phased increase in frequency. Reportedly, from July 4 to September 30, the route will run five services per day before rising to 10 daily departures throughout October. From November 1, the schedule will expand further to 15 trips each day to meet anticipated demand.
The route has been designed to combine public transport with sightseeing, passing many of the city’s best-known attractions and urban districts. After departing from Saigon Bus Station, the buses will travel along key roads including Pham Ngu Lao, Tran Hung Dao, Ham Nghi, Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Tat Thanh, Mai Chi Tho and Van Dang. The return journey will cross Thu Thiem Bridge before continuing through the city centre, taking passengers past landmarks such as Notre-Dame Cathedral and Nguyen Hue Walking Street.
The new service will become the sixth specialised open-top sightseeing bus route in Ho Chi Minh City, complementing the existing network that primarily serves the central tourism precinct.
City officials believe the additional route will broaden the destination’s tourism portfolio while offering travellers a fresh perspective of Ho Chi Minh City’s evolving urban landscape. The initiative also reflects the city’s broader strategy of integrating public transport with tourism development, reinforcing its reputation as a modern, welcoming and culturally vibrant destination for both domestic and international visitors.
