Police authorities in Jakarta have arrested a Bruneian influencer in connection with the death of a man following an alleged assault in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta earlier this month.
The suspect, known by the initials MIA, 33, was taken into custody on May 25 in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. Investigators from Jakarta Metropolitan Police believe he was involved in an attack that ultimately led to the death of a 30-year-old man identified as MHF.
Authorities said the confrontation unfolded around 3.30 am on May 6 outside Blok M Hub in Melawai, Kebayoran Baru. Before the incident occurred, the victim had reportedly been gathering with several acquaintances near the venue. According to the police account, MIA arrived at the scene in a car accompanied by another person. Officers said he was carrying a black paper bag suspected of containing a glass bottle when he approached the victim. A verbal dispute then reportedly erupted near the entrance of the shopping complex before both men moved towards the front of the sports facility.
Investigators allege that during the altercation, the suspect used the bag and the object inside it to strike the victim on the head. The blow caused the victim to fall to the ground.
Following the incident, the injured man was transported to Pertamina Central Hospital for medical treatment. Although he initially survived the attack, his health later worsened and doctors declared him dead on May 16.
Police said the suspect remains in custody while further investigations continue. Prosecutors are expected to pursue charges under Articles 466(3) and 468(2) of Indonesia’s revised Criminal Code, which cover assault resulting in death.
