“Amazing Locations: From Scene to Scenic — Place as Character: How Thailand Shapes Global Cinema?” industry panel held at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2020, aim to promote Thailand’s potential as an international film location (Tourism Authority of Thailand Newsroom)
Thailand is positioning itself as a destination for international film productions while promoting travel inspired by cinema at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026, held from September 10 to 16 in Toronto, Canada.
Through its “Amazing Location Thailand: From Scene to Scenic” campaign, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is showcasing the country’s filming locations, production expertise, cultural heritage and local communities to filmmakers and entertainment professionals.
TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications Nithee Seeprae said Thailand’s appeal extends beyond its landscapes and production facilities, with its people, culture and communities adding character and a stronger sense of place to film projects.
The initiative forms part of TAT’s film tourism strategy under the Sub-Culture Economy, one of five pillars of the Amazing 5 Economy framework. The strategy aims to generate tourism value both by attracting overseas productions and by encouraging audiences to visit destinations featured on screen.
At TIFF, the campaign featured an industry panel, a Variety Studio interview, a networking reception with CULTURED, and a presence at the TIFF 2026 Market.
The industry panel brought together Thai filmmaker Banjong Pisanthanakun, producer and executive Cod Satrusayang, and international film producer and curator Raymond Phathanavirangoon. Discussions focused on how Thailand’s landscapes, communities and way of life can function as narrative elements rather than simply cinematic backdrops.
Meanwhile, the TIFF Market featured 10 curated filming routes across Thailand, linking potential production locations with cultural and community experiences. This initiative also highlighted Team Thailand cooperation, with the Department of International Trade Promotion and Thailand Film Office joining TAT to present the country’s production infrastructure, skilled workforce and industry support to international filmmakers.
