On August 12, thousands of people gathered at Halong Marina Square in Bai Chay ward, Quang Ninh province of Vietnam, on the occasion of the 73rd edition of Miss World, the most prestigious international beauty pageant.
Hosted by the Miss World organisation with the support of Quang Ninh authorities, the opening ceremony included 111 contestants representing countries worldwide, enriched by the program “Hello Vietnam” and contestants’ parade wearing authentic collection of traditional Vietnam dress ao dai, made by Vietnamese fashion designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam.
The ceremony then moved into two main segments, “Welcome Miss World to Quang Ninh – Vietnam” and “Sound of Beauty”, which brought together performances by leading Vietnamese artists and appearances by the contestants.
Lê Vân Anh, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said the event held particular significance as Vietnam hosted the Miss World competition for the first time in 2026, the year of its 75th anniversary. He noted that choosing Quang Ninh for the opening ceremony underscored the province’s growing international profile and its capacity to accommodate major international events.
The contestants spent August 8 to 12 in Quang Ninh before moving on to other parts of Vietnam. Their itinerary includes heritage destinations in Hai Phong and Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa province, as they continue preparations for the final competition.
