On July 26, Formula One confirmed that Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit will stage the rescheduled Bahrain Grand Prix from October 2 to 4, slotted between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix.
The announcement was made during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, with Formula One revealing that the race will officially be known as the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. The one-off arrangement follows an agreement involving the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia, Formula One and the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).
The Bahrain Grand Prix had originally been scheduled for April at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, but was postponed because of regional conflict across the Middle East.
Formula One President and Chief Executive Stefano Domenicali welcomed the agreement, describing it as a positive outcome for supporters and the championship alike. He said the revised plan would preserve a full racing calendar while allowing fans to witness Formula One’s return to one of the sport’s most established venues.
Sepang last hosted a Formula One Grand Prix in 2017 before Malaysia withdrew from the championship because of rising hosting costs. Its temporary return marks an unexpected revival for one of the sport’s most popular circuits and ensures the 2026 Formula One season remains on schedule despite geopolitical challenges.
