On February 23, Malaysia made a constitutional breakthrough by introducing a bill to limit the prime minister’s period in office to just two terms, a total of ten years, in an effort to boost accountability and curb executive overreach. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says the law would apply to himself first, fulfilling a 2022 manifesto pledge. The change still needs two-thirds parliamentary approval.
