Indonesia steps up education recovery following North Sumatra disaster

Indonesia is accelerating the rehabilitation of schools in three disaster-hit provinces in Sumatra to restore normal learning activities. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said on January 10, repairs in West Sumatra province have progressed, while several schools and religious education facilities in North Sumatra and Aceh provinces still require further reconstruction due to extensive damage.

More than 90,000 personnel have been deployed to support recovery efforts. The Education Ministry reported that 4,863 schools were affected across the three provinces and has provided emergency classrooms, learning supplies and financial support for teachers while continuing damage assessments with regional authorities.
