Junta leaning party projected to win Myanmar’s third phase election

Myanmar’s third round of national election was held on January 25, following two previous phases. The electoral process only tamed 20% of the population in 330 cities. Coupled with suppression of critics, observers argue that this condition favors the junta-leaning Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), which is projected to win. While the ruling generals assured the public that the election will pave the way to civilian government, some analysts fear that the election will simply change military clothing to a civilian one.
