On July 3, The Philippines’ Department of Tourism (DOT) announced that the Filipino girl group BINI will serve as its newest tourism ambassador, marking a fresh effort to promote domestic travel through the country’s growing entertainment industry.
Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said the agency is finalising the arrangements before the partnership is formally launched. Although the official signing has yet to take place due to scheduling requirements, she said both parties have already reached an understanding.
Speaking during the group’s courtesy visit to the DOT headquarters in Makati, the tourism secretary highlighted that each member of BINI has strong ties to different provinces and municipalities across the Philippines. She noted that the singers possess first-hand knowledge of their hometowns and can authentically showcase the distinctive attractions and cultural identity of their respective communities.
DOT Assistant Secretary Ren Sapitan revealed that discussions with the group began following their widely praised appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. He said the agency recognised the group’s broad public appeal and the significant attention generated by their international performance, viewing it as an opportunity to extend tourism promotion beyond the existing P-pop fanbase.
Meanwhile, Lauren Dyogi, who oversees television production at ABS-CBN and Star Magic, described the initiative as the beginning of what could become a long-term collaboration that benefits not only BINI and the company but also the wider Philippine entertainment sector.
BINI, an eight-member girl group recognised for chart-topping tracks such as Pantropiko, Salamin, Salamin and Cherry on Top, has become one of the country’s most influential pop acts. The DOT has also indicated that it intends to appoint at least one more P-pop group as part of its wider campaign to encourage domestic tourism, complementing previous international promotional partnerships, including the appointment of Korean actor Seo In-guk as tourism ambassador for the South Korean market.
