On June 18, the French Institute in Indonesia (IFI), along with Campus France, organised a Pre-Departure Seminar to prepare Indonesian students for their studies in France. The event provided students and their parents with essential information and practical guidance for their academic journey abroad.

During the seminar, students attended a series of parallel sessions covering administrative procedures for moving to France, practical tips on living in the country and study methodologies in French higher education. The programme also featured discussions with representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in Paris (KBRI), the Indonesian Students Association in France (PPI Prancis) and France Alumni, giving participants the opportunity to gain first-hand insights and ask questions about studying and living in France.

France continues to attract Indonesian students with its internationally recognised universities, a government-supported public higher education system and relatively affordable tuition fees. Offering programmes across disciplines ranging from engineering and cybersecurity to management and the humanities, the country has become an increasingly popular destination for Indonesian students seeking internationally recognised qualifications.

“French higher education is founded on academic freedom and strong public support,” said Antoine Bricout, Attaché for Educational and University Cooperation at the French Embassy in Indonesia. “French higher education is heavily subsidised by the French state, making it one of the most affordable in the world,” he added.

The seminar comes as France and Indonesia continue to deepen cooperation in higher education and research following the Joint Declaration on Education, Research and Mobility signed by French President Emmanuel Macron and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during Indonesia’s state visit to Paris in May. The partnership has expanded opportunities for Indonesian students through the LPDP–France scholarship programmes.
