On May 13, the Majalengka District Court in West Java province, sentenced Gin Gin Ginanjar (24) to death. He is the defendant in the case of premeditated murder of a 11 year-old primary school student, identified by the initial MRS. The tragic crime occurred on October 18, 2025.

Besides the death penalty, the court also imposed a restitution amounting to 31.98 million Indonesian Rupiah (1.828 US dollar) to the defendant, which will be handed over for the family’s victim.

Reportedly, the murder case took place in a toilet located inside of a prayer hall in Majalengka,  where the victim’s body was discovered by the police. The judges revealed at that time, the victim, who was just 11 years old, was riding a bicycle near the prayer hall. The defendant then approached the victim, pretending to ask for directions to the toilet and offering money to persuade the victim to accompany him to the prayer’s hall washroom.

However, upon arriving at the location, the victim grew suspicious and attempted to flee before being subjected to physical violence that rendered him unconscious. The judges stated that after committing the sexual assault, the defendant tried to conceal the crime by placing the victim’s body in a bathtub to make the death appear as an accidental drowning.

Previously, the public prosecutor sought the defendant to pass the life sentence trial. However, the judges considered that premeditated murder to a minor was a serious crime which deeply offended the sense of humanity and disrupted the public’s sense of safety.

The death penalty in Indonesia is regulated under the Criminal Code (KUHP) as an alternative punishment. Judges must consider the defendant’s remorse, potential for rehabilitation and role in the crime. A ten-year probation period begins once the verdict becomes legally binding, and if the inmate shows no improvement during this time, the execution may proceed upon the Attorney General’s order.
