On April 10, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto witnessed the handover of administrative fines, recovered state funds and the sixth phase of reclaimed forest areas during a ceremony at the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office in Jakarta. The initiative forms part of the government’s effort to strengthen governance of natural resources while ensuring state revenues are recovered.
The collection of administrative penalties was carried out under Presidential Regulation No. 5 of 2025, which provides the legal basis for imposing sanctions and recovering financial losses linked to irregularities in forest management.
During the ceremony, authorities reported that administrative fines and recovered state funds reached 11.42 trillion Indonesian rupiah (672 million US dollars). The total includes 7.23 trillion Indonesian rupiah (425 million US dollars) from administrative sanctions in the forestry sector, 1.96 trillion Indonesian rupiah (115 million US dollars) in non-tax revenue recovered through corruption cases handled by the Attorney General’s Office, and 967.7 billion Indonesian rupiah (57 million US dollars) in tax receipts recorded between January and April 2026. Additional contributions included 108.5 billion Indonesian rupiah (6.4 million US dollars) in tax payments made by PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara between January and February 2026 and 1.14 trillion Indonesian rupiah (67 million US dollars) in environmental fines.
In his remarks, the president highlighted a series of financial recoveries achieved over recent months. He noted that authorities secured 13.255 trillion Indonesian rupiah (780 million US dollars) in October 2025 from a corruption case involving export facilities for crude palm oil and its derivatives, followed by another 6.625 trillion Indonesian rupiah (390 million US dollars) recovered in December 2025. As of 10 April, the government had recovered a further 11.42 trillion Indonesian rupiah (672 million US dollars).
Separately, the Forest Area Control Task Force reported that since February 2025 it has regained control of about 5.88 million hectares of oil palm plantation land and 10,257 hectares previously used for mining. During the sixth phase of the programme, around 254,780 hectares of conservation forest were returned to the Kementerian Kehutanan, with the symbolic handover conducted by Attorney General ST Burhanuddin to Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni.
The ceremony intended to publicly highlight the government’s recent efforts in recovering state assets and enforcing regulations in the natural resources sector. During the event, stacks of cash representing the recovered funds were displayed, underscoring what officials described as tangible progress in restoring state control over forest areas and strengthening oversight of resource management.
