Hanoi will host a month-long cultural programme celebrating the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival, with Lưu Trăng Phố Cổ 2026 taking place from August 27 to September 30 across six heritage and cultural venues in the capital.
Organised by the Management Board of Hoàn Kiếm Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter, the programme will centre on the Old Quarter and Hoàn Kiếm Lake, bringing together artisans, researchers, artists and the public through what organisers describe as a heritage-focused experiential journey.
Each venue will serve as a ‘storytelling station’ exploring different aspects of Mid-Autumn traditions. The Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Centre will recreate a wet-rice farming setting and examine the festival’s agricultural roots. At the Centre for Art and Culture, visitors can discover traditional toys, folk games, tea culture and other creative activities.
Meanwhile, the Heritage House at 87 Mã Mây Street will explore Mid-Autumn traditions in Hanoi households through the Đón Trăng exhibition, alongside mooncake-making and handicraft sessions. A cultural space at 40 Lãn Ông Street will connect the festival with traditional medicine and herbal knowledge, while the Hồ Gươm Cultural Information Centre will feature lion-dance activities and works by young people.
These programmes will culminate in a Mid-Autumn Festival Night procession around Hoàn Kiếm Lake on September 25, featuring traditional lanterns, lion heads, festival flags and folk characters.
Through this initiative, the government envisions encouraging young people to reinterpret heritage creatively while strengthening connections between traditional knowledge, cultural heritage and contemporary community life.
