Thailand is set to reposition its tourism sector in 2027 as the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) launches “The Year of Transformation” on August 24. The strategy designed to move the industry beyond visitor numbers and towards higher-value, sustainable travel.
The plan was presented at Bangkok’s Rajadamnern Stadium under the theme “The Ultimate Fight: Transform for the Win!”, setting a target of at least 5% tourism revenue growth from 2026. TAT also aims to achieve a 60:40 visitor split between established and emerging destinations, while securing a place among Asia’s top three destinations for traveller loyalty.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool said Thailand would draw on its strengths in wellness, culture, gastronomy and sustainability to create experiences capable of generating greater value and encouraging repeat visits.
The 2027 roadmap centres on four priorities. The first seeks to diversify Thailand’s markets and destinations, including by developing new source markets and promoting higher-spending traveller segments. The second will refresh the Amazing Thailand brand by placing greater emphasis on meaningful experiences, regional identities and wellness.
TAT’s third priority focuses on creating new sources of tourism revenue. Premium travel, health and wellness, festivals and sustainable tourism will form the basis of new growth areas, including the planned “Unseen Luxperience 2027” campaign showcasing exclusive Thai experiences.
The final pillar will expand TAT’s role beyond tourism promotion towards coordinating the wider visitor economy. Data, technology, artificial intelligence and public-private partnerships will be used to improve the traveller experience and strengthen industry capabilities. Through the strategy, TAT aims to distribute tourism benefits more widely while advancing Thailand’s ambition to become Asia’s leading high-value and meaningful destination.
