On April 29, Norwegian-flagged cruise ship Viking Orion arrived at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, bringing more than 800 international tourists to Cambodia. The vessel arrived at the coastal port  after departing from Thailand earlier in its regional voyage. The cruise ship is scheduled to remain docked in Sihanoukville for two days, giving passengers time to explore the surrounding areas. According to port authorities, the ship is expected to leave on April 30 before continuing its journey to Saigon, Vietnam.

Officials from the port’s immigration department reported that the ship is carrying a total of 822 passengers, including 439 women, representing 23 different nationalities. A significant majority of those on board, 629 travellers are US citizens, making Americans the largest group among the visitors. In addition to the passengers, the vessel is operated by a crew of 467 members responsible for navigation, hospitality, and onboard services throughout the voyage.

To ensure tourists could begin their excursions without delay, immigration authorities implemented expedited processing measures at the port, allowing passengers to disembark and clear formalities more efficiently.

Most travellers are expected to spend their time visiting attractions across Sihanoukville and nearby areas. Popular destinations include the region’s beaches along the Gulf of Thailand, local markets, and cultural landmarks such as pagodas. Some visitors have also planned trips to the Tumnup Rolok fishing village, where they can observe the daily life of coastal communities and traditional fishing activities.

Meanwhile, a smaller group of 33 tourists opted to travel immediately to Siem Reap province for a specialised excursion to the Angkor temple complex, one of Cambodia’s most renowned historical and cultural sites.

Earlier this year, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port also received another international cruise vessel when the luxury cruise ship Seven Seas Explorer docked at the port in February. The arrival of several cruises in recent months has been viewed by local authorities as a positive sign for the country’s maritime tourism industry.

The Viking Orion is currently sailing through Southeast Asia as part of a 77-day cruise itinerary themed “Easter”. The one-way journey began in Sydney on 30 March 2026 and will conclude in Vancouver on June 15 2026, with the vessel currently continuing its route towards Saigon as part of its extended trans-Pacific voyage.
