On February 16, Philippine Army chief Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarette explained that former Colonel Audio Mongao, who has been relieved from his post in January, will face court martial.
The decision was taken following Mongao’s social media post on January 8 stating his withdrawal of support to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. “I, Col. Audie A. Mongao, am withdrawing my personal support to our President and Commander-in-Chief, Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr! Enough is enough! The Filipino people are worth fighting for,” read the post.
Mongao is facing charges of violating Article of War 63, which provides that any officer who uses “contemptuous or disrespectful words” against the president, vice president, Congress, or the secretary of national defense “shall be dismissed from the service or suffer such other punishment as a court-martial may direct.”
