Myanmar junta pardons over ten thousand political prisoners

On March 2, Myanmar’s military junta pardoned 10,162 political prisoners with over 7,337 previously indicted under the counter-terrorism laws, according to the state media outlet MRTV. This decision was made ahead of the first parliamentary session. Prior to the grant, the prisoners had been threatened by a death penalty. However, following the prisoners’ release, there are no signs that the long-detained democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi will be released.
