Indonesia to expand free nutritious meals programme for the elderly

Indonesia’s Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf has announced plans on February 5 to expand the Free Nutritious Meals programme to reach up to 400,000 elderly citizens and around 36,000 people with disabilities this year. The expansion aims to build on existing support for 136,000 elderly beneficiaries and integrate social protection services with the National Nutrition Agency’s programme, while data collection and distribution mechanisms are still being finalised.

Yusuf said the integration is intended to help vulnerable groups meet their nutritional needs through accurate, data-driven assistance, under Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s mandate in total of Rp335 trillion (US$19.8 billion) for this year’s budget, allocated from the state budget.
