A gunman held students and teachers hostage at Patongprathankiriwat School in Hat Yai, the southern part of Thailand, on February 11 after opening fire inside the complex using a stolen pistol. The 18-year-old suspect was detained by police, and all hostages were freed. Several people were injured in the incident, including a pupil, and one teacher was killed.
