On March 14, Grab has unveiled two new initiatives in Malaysia aimed at improving safety and expanding economic opportunities for women, marking the observance of International Women’s Day 2026. Announced in Kuala Lumpur, the initiatives include a Women-Only Rides (Beta) service and a nationwide campaign to recruit more female driver-partners. According to the company, the measures are intended to provide safer travel options for women while encouraging greater participation of women in the ride-hailing workforce.
The Women-Only Rides (Beta) feature connects female passengers exclusively with women driver-partners. The service is currently available through Advance Booking in the Klang Valley region and was introduced in response to requests from both drivers and users seeking additional safety, particularly for those travelling alone. To access the service, female passengers must complete a one-time gender verification process using their MyKad or passport alongside a selfie. The information is cross-checked with official records before the option becomes available on the platform.
Speaking at the launch event, managing director Adelene Foo said the initiative reinforces the company’s long-standing commitment to safety and empowerment, building on its existing safety infrastructure and the #SisBoleh programme introduced in 2023. The initiative is designed not only to enhance passenger confidence but also to support women seeking flexible income opportunities. She added that ensuring women feel safe when travelling also helps create pathways towards greater financial independence.
Alongside the service rollout, Grab Malaysia has launched a Women Driver Acquisition campaign running from March 8 to September 30, 2026. The nationwide effort aims to expand the community of women driver-partners, with incentives including rewards worth up to RM100,000 (US$25,390) and a grand prize of a Proton Saga car.
