Vietnam to launch its second domestic car ‘THACO’ in 2027

Vietnam marks a significant milestone in auto industry by launching its second own Vietnamese-branded passenger car “THACO” in 2027. The plan, confirmed by chairman Tran Ba Duong, would make THACO the country’s second major local passenger car brand after VinFast.

The expansion comes as domestic brands gain market share, with VinFast delivering 175,099 EVs in 2025, nearly matching the combined sales of Toyota, Hyundai and Ford in Vietnam. THACO plans to invest US$1.4 billion in 2026 and target revenue of VND65.5 trillion (US$2.5 billion) from 96,600 vehicle sales.
