On March 25, Timor-Leste welcomed a high-level delegation from regional and international institutions for talks aimed at supporting the country’s integration to ASEAN and aligning its economic policies with national development priorities.
The delegation arrived in Dili on Wednesday for a two-day dialogue focused on strengthening cooperation and advancing Timor-Leste’s path towards ASEAN membership.
Augusto Júnior Trindade, Timor-Leste’s Vice Minister of Commerce and Industry and the country’s leader for the Senior Economic Officials Meeting, received the delegation at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport.
The visiting delegation includes Satvinder Singh, Scott Morris, and Rithi Pich. Representatives from the Asian Development Bank and Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce are also taking part in the discussions.
The officials are participating in a High-Level Dialogue titled “Timor-Leste in ASEAN: Advancing the National Development Goals through Regional Integration.” The event, held over two days at the Palm Springs Hotel, brings together representatives from government ministries, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timor-Leste, and resident ambassadors from ASEAN member states.
The dialogue is expected to support Timor-Leste’s efforts to strengthen its economic integration within the region while promoting policies that encourage sustainable growth and long-term development.
Officials say the discussions will also help align national development strategies with regional economic frameworks as the country continues its preparations to join ASEAN.
