Singapore will introduce new regulations on the sale of blind boxes to address potential gambling-related risks, Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said in Parliament on February 12. The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Gambling Regulatory Authority are drafting conditions on how “gacha” products may be offered, with mandatory disclosure of odds among the measures under consideration.
Blind boxes currently fall under the Gambling Control Act. Social service agency warned that the normalisation of chance-based purchases could encourage compulsive behaviour among children and young people, citing the psychological impact of uncertainty and repeated unsuccessful attempts to obtain rare items.
