Singapore to lower drink-driving limit amid road safety concerns

Singapore will lower its legal drink-driving limit from 35 to 15 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, aligning its rules with those in Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs Sim Ann said in Parliament on February 27 that the necessary legislative amendments will be introduced later this year.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is also considering tightening the demerit points system amid worsening road safety. Moreover, traffic fatalities have reached a 10 year high, with significant rises in speeding and red-light offences.
