Myanmar pledges to lift blacklist on former civil servants after mass defections

Myanmar’s junta promised a removal of blacklist status for ex-civil servants who were involved in a disobedience movement. After a military-led coup occurred in February 2021, thousands of civil servants, ranging from government workers, doctors and engineers, were protesting by deserting from their posts.

On February 1, the junta’s National Defence and Security Council stated that those who left for various reasons should report to their former workplace and will be acquitted of charges.
