On January 2, Cambodia called on Thailand to withdraw its troops from their territory accusing Thai forces of occupying Banteay Meanchey, Pursat, Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey provinces following 20 days of escalation.
Cambodia stated that Thai forces forcefully penetrated the area and placed them under ‘their effective control areas situated unequivocally’. Despite the accusations, Cambodia demands a peaceful coexistence in line with the Joint Boundary Commissions (JBC) and international norms.
