Cambodia and Laos strengthen economic ties with US$700 million trade goal by 2030

On February 8, Cambodia and Laos have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, setting a target to raise two-way trade to US$700 million by 2030. During talks in Phnom Penh, Prime Ministers Hun Manet and Sonexay Siphandone reviewed progress under their comprehensive strategic partnership and agreed to enhance collaboration in trade, infrastructure, security and energy. Key initiatives include improving transport connectivity, expanding access to international markets through Cambodian seaports, and facilitating agricultural exports via Laos, alongside efforts to combat transnational crime.

Business implications
Stronger cross-border cooperation is expected to improve regional logistics, lower trade frictions and open new routes to global markets for businesses in both countries. Enhanced infrastructure links and energy cooperation could support supply chain efficiency, agricultural exports and investment opportunities, while positioning Cambodia and Laos more firmly within regional trade and connectivity networks.
