The Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (SAMM) on the Current Situation between Cambodia and Thailand. (ASEAN)
Amid ongoing border clashes between the two countries along the 817 km border, a Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (SAMM) was hosted on December 22 to discuss the ongoing tension between Thailand and Cambodia.
ASEAN emphasized that both countries should ‘exercise maximum restraint’ and resort to dialogue, urging immediate de-escalation. However, the meeting ends without any significant effort in stopping the deadly clash.
Nevertheless, this is an effort to reenact a truce, brokered by Donald Trump in October which did not last long.
While Thailand keeps on stressing to return to bilateralism, the two conflicting parties agreed to hold talks on December 24.
